Nitro or Electric?
Nitro powered R/C vehicles are extremely fast and are typically more powerful than electric models. They are powered by 2.5cc two-stroke glow engines and offer the convenience of extended run times. Electric models offer similar performance, but are quieter, cleaner and are simpler to maintain. Electric vehicles are usually a better choice for indoor running or driving in a confined area. For people under the age of 16, we generally recommend an electric model, though our nitro models are simple to use and well-documented enough to be used by first-time hobbyists, not to mention the award-winning service/support you will receive after purchasing a Traxxas nitro or electric model.
Another important note to consider about nitro vehicles is the extra maintenance required to keep the vehicle operating correctly and consistently. Correct carburetor settings, fresh fuel and routine maintenance are needed to keep nitro-powered models in tip-top shape. All Traxxas models (electric and nitro) come complete with a comprehensive instruction manual for the operation and upkeep of the vehicle. Electric vehicles are very quiet in comparison to nitro-powered vehicles. This may be important if you live in an apartment complex or a neighborhood that may have noise-level restrictions. Electric vehicles are simple to operate as well. Just charge up the battery(s), plug them in and you're off and running. There is a very minimal amount of tuning or maintenance required on electric powered vehicles. Under normal running conditions, electric vehicles will generally last around 8-to-15 minutes on a charge. A full tank in a nitro vehicle can last about the same amount of time, but the benefit with the nitro model is that you can quickly refill the tank while the engine is still running and continue to have fun, tank-after-tank. The battery pack that powers an electric model will drain with use, and must be recharged or swapped out with a charged pack to continue operation.
The bottom line is that there are advantages that both the electric and the nitro R/C models have over the other.

Local hobby shops are the best sources for R/C gear. Local hobby shops offer more than just radio controlled models and hardware; they also provide assistance and support after the sale. What else is needed?
Most R/C vehicles only require basic hand tools for disassembly or adjustments. Many hobbyists already have everything they need in their tool box.
